Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday evening on Interstate 40 in Smith County, east of Lebanon.
The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. at mile marker 262.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, James Spurlock was traveling east on I-40 when his 2004 Ford Expedition traveled off the left side of the roadway, hit a guardrail, traveled down an embankment and overturned.
Spurlock, 66, of Lebanon, and his passenger, Dorthula Spurlock, 65, also of Lebanon, were pronounced dead on the scene.
The THP said it appears James Spurlock ran off the interstate while attempting to negotiate a curve.
