In a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, Tennessee Democratic Congressman Jim Cooper said, in part, "We support a clean Continuing Resolution. There are more than enough bi-partisan support in the house to pas a clean CR and reopen the government."
The congressman calls the government shutdown a real tragedy for America.
He says Democrats and Republicans are supposed to compromise and work together for the good of the country.
The letter is also signed by Wisconsin Democratic Congressman Ron Kind.
The two Democrats added, "We are also willing to work together to reopen the government, avoid a default of our nation's debt obligations and fully implement the Affordable Care Act. In fact, we have been talking with our colleagues about how to end the current impasse."
News 2 spoke with Congressman Cooper's Washington office and were told so far, there has been no response to Cooper's letter from Speaker Boehner.
