MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Three Rutherford County firefighters were honored on Monday for helping a woman and her husband deliver their baby girl unexpectedly at home last month.

Brooke Dittman went into labor at her Murfreesboro home on the Sunday night before the Labor Day holiday. She gave birth shortly after in the early morning hours of September 2.

Brooke and her husband Chris quickly determined they would not get to the hospital in time and called 911.

Firemen Joel Patnode, Steve Ellison and Jeremy Spivey were all honored Monday during a special ceremony for their help in delivering the couple's daughter, Molly.

"We're just both proud parents. We're very happy with our new little one and having a happy, healthy family so thank you," Chris Dittman said.

The firefighters recently completed a refresher course on labor and delivery prior to helping deliver Molly.
