Man accused of shooting ex-wife, male friend with shotgun

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -

An east Tennessee man is behind bars in Robertson County for allegedly shooting his ex-wife and her male acquaintance with a shotgun Wednesday night in Springfield.

According to investigators, Robert Hamill, of Hixson, outside Chattanooga, went to his ex-wife's house in the 200 block of Foxrun off Oakland Road and Highway 41 around 11:40 p.m.

Hamill, 63, began shooting when she answered the door.

While Hamill never entered the home, police said he fired seven or eight shotgun blasts into the home.

Both the ex-wife and man inside were struck.

They were transported to Northcrest Medical Center before being transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

They were last listed in stable condition and are expected to recover.

Hamill is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated domestic assault and possession of a weapon.

He was booked into the Robertson County jail on $16,000 bond.
