WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

Williamson County authorities are investigating 34 burglaries that occurred in or near Franklin over the weekend.

According to officials, the break-ins, 21 of which occurred in the Falcon Creek Subdivision near Interstate 65, all occurred overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

Thirteen additional vehicle break-ins occurred three and a half miles away in Williamson County. In one case, the victim's Nissan Pathfinder was stolen after the thieves found the keys inside the vehicle.

The SUV was later discovered nearby abandoned.

Authorities said all the targeted vehicles were left unlocked. The thieves got away with check books, purses and DVD players.

At least one of the suspects in the crimes was caught on home surveillance video around 12:30 a.m. Monday while rummaging through a truck's console before running off into the darkness.

Resident Walter McCord told News 2 Investigates his realtor's purse was stolen during the recent rash of burglaries. He said keys to his home were inside her purse.

"Now, I have to re-key all my locks again," he said.

Investigators are reminding all motorists to lock their car doors when they exit the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the recent string of auto break-ins is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-794-4000.
