KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two fraternities at the University of Tennessee have been disciplined for alleged hazing.
UT said in a news release Monday that Sigma Chi is on two years' probation, and Lambda Chi Alpha has been placed on interim suspension pending an investigation.
Sigma Chi is accused of activities involving food and garbage on Aug. 27. The Lambda Chi Alpha investigation involves reports of alleged forced exercise on Sept. 10. The university said one pledge suffered a minor injury.
Sigma Chi is banned from social events, and members must perform community service. The chapter also must present a hazing re-education and prevention program and pay to install security cameras.
Lambda Chi Alpha may not engage in formal activities. After the investigation, UT will recommend sanctions, which the fraternity may accept or it may request a hearing.
