NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Vanderbilt University Medical Center will begin charging visitors to park in garages by the end of the year.

According to a media release on Thursday, the hospital will charge $7 for a 24-hour period.

The fee applies to patients and visitors, as well as Vanderbilt employees who work at other locations, according to the release.

Visitors will be given a parking pass as they enter the garage with a time stamp.

They will be allowed to leave the garage and return without paying an additional fee within the 24 hour period.

Discounted passes will be available to frequent visitors of the hospital for five, 15 or 30 day periods.

The price for the discounted passes, which will be sold in the hospital gift shops, has not been released.

Valet parking will continue at the same $7 rate.
