Northeast Middle School in Clarksville was evacuated Tuesday morning after a student brought what appeared to be a potentially explosive device onto school grounds.
Elise Shelton, spokesperson for the Clarksville-Montgomery County school system, told News 2 when the device was discovered, the school followed its evacuation procedures and contacted law enforcement.
The device was later determined to be a "drilled out and disarmed device that had its explosive core removed," according to an email from the school's principal.
Students and staff were never in any danger.
ClarksvilleNow.com reported the school has identified the student responsible for bringing the device and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
