Man shot in leg in east Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 21-year-old man was shot in an apartment complex's parking lot late Sunday night after an altercation.

The shooting took place in the Cobblestone Corners apartments on Ben Allen Road in east Nashville at 11:20 p.m.

The victim told police he was sitting outside with two friends when several black males approached them.  The suspects were all wearing red clothing.

The victim's friend and one of the suspects began to argue.  The victim said he saw several of the suspects pull out guns, so he ran.

While running, he told police several shots were fired.  He was hit in the right leg.  He fell and injured his other leg while trying to hide in bushes behind an apartment building.

Authorities found the victim when they arrived.  He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his right knee and broke his femur during the fall.

Police reported he has an extensive criminal history, including previous arrests for vehicle theft and drug offenses.

It is unknown at this time of the shooting was gang-related.
