78 immigrants become American citizens in Naturalization Ceremony

The dream of becoming an American citizen came true for dozens of immigrants living in Middle Tennessee Friday.

On the lawn of President Andrew Jackson's former home, 78 immigrants from 42 countries took park in a Naturalization Ceremony and became American citizens.

During the ceremony, each person stated their names and their countries of origin before raising their right hand and reciting the oath of allegiance.

Following the ceremony U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell reminded the new American citizens of their privileges and responsibilities.

"Congratulations again. You're now an American citizen," he said. "I strongly urge you to register to vote and vote in every election."

More than 18,000 people became U.S. citizens in 180 Naturalization ceremonies across the country.
