Krispy Kreme giving free doughnuts to pirates

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and one local chain is offering a free treasure for those that take part.

All day, Krispy Kreme is giving one free glazed doughnut to anyone who talks like a pirate while ordering.

Talk Like A Pirate Day started as an idea among friends, then took off 10 years ago when famed newspaper columnist Dave Berry wrote an article about it.

Krispy Kreme's Web site says phrases such as "Ahoy mateys!" and "Shiver me timbers!" will quality the customer for the free doughnut.

And even better, anyone who dresses up like a pirate can get one free dozen glazed doughnuts.

Dressing like a pirate, the store says, constitutes at least three articles of clothing that represent a pirate, such as a pirate hat, bandana, eye patch or costume hook.

The doughnut chain has two locations in Nashville at 2103 Elliston Place and 408 Thompson Lane.
