NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Plans for a new corporate headquarters for Hospital Corporation of America on West End Avenue have stalled.

Last September, HCA, one of Nashville's largest employers, announced it would invest $200 million and build two massive office buildings at the West End Summit property in Midtown.

According to a document obtained by News 2 Monday, the project has been delayed due to the "direct result of the inability of the project developer to secure necessary financing to move the project forward."

The 900,000 square foot development was planned for West End Avenue between 16th and 17th avenues.

At the completion of the project, HCA planned to add another 1,000 jobs to its already 7,000 employees in Middle Tennessee.

Parallon Business Solutions and the Sarah Cannon Research Institute also planned to relocate to the space and expand their workforces.

In a statement late Monday afternoon, officials said, "As we have said before, we are committed to finding a viable site that enables us to bring 2,000 jobs to Davidson County, and we appreciate the ongoing commitment by the city and state to this development effort. The growth of Parallon and Sarah Cannon continues, and we are exploring all options that enable us to bring these resources to this community."

Developer of the stalled project Alex Palmer, of Palmer Properties, added, "This is a very complex project, in fact the largest private development in the history of the state. As a result, pulling together the financing for the project has been a difficult process and has taken longer than we anticipated.  At this time, the majority of the financing is in place, and we are working on the final piece. I am certain we will complete the process in the near future, and the project will be ready to get underway."

This is the second time a plan for the West End Summit property has been delayed.

In 2007 the site was cleared to make way for a multi-use project to include retail, office hotel and condominium space.  A sluggish economy ended those plans and the site has sat vacant every since.
