WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

A home caught fire in Williamson County early Thursday morning and sustained serious damage.

The blaze broke out in the 1100 block of Bradley Drive, just outside the Franklin city limits, around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, it was fully engulfed in flames.

The homeowner told News 2 he was woken up by the smell of smoke.  He spotted the fire quickly and was able to escape safely with his wife and son.

He and his family have lived in the home for nearly 20 years.

The residence is considered a total loss, however, there were some salvageable items.  Firefighters plan on aiding the family Thursday to save what they can.

Crews had issues with water pressure early on, but were able to boost the pressure soon after.

It took a couple hours to put out the flames and officials were working on hot spots until 5:30 a.m.

Authorities said the fire began above one of the bathroom areas in the attic.
