Charlie Daniels hosts annual 'Scholarships for Heroes'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Aside from his country music resume, Charlie Daniels does more for U.S. soldiers than just about anyone.

On Wednesday night, the Grand Ole Opry member raised money for the "Charlie Daniels Scholarships for Heroes."

It is an annual charity event held at The Palm to benefit the Task Force Dagger Foundation.

The non-profit organization helps fund recovery for soldiers with war wounds and aid families in coping with the trauma.

"I believe in what they did.  I believe we owe them and as long as I can.  As long as there is a way to do it, I'm going to at least try to chip away on that debt.  We'll never get it repaid but we'll chip away at it," Daniels said.
