MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

A 19-year-old pedestrian has died after he was struck by an SUV while walking on a narrow road in Wilson County Wednesday morning.

The victim, James Buchanan, was walking with his brother, Jeremy Buchanan, in the 5100 block of East Division Street in Leeville when he was hit just before 6 a.m.

The brothers' vehicle reportedly broke down a few feet from where the collision occurred.

The two began walking east toward Highway 109 when James Buchanan was hit.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2 the driver of the SUV, 62-year-old Iris Shelton, did not see the pedestrians because of early morning fog.

Both men are believed to have been walking in the roadway, which lacks a shoulder on either side.

James Buchanan suffered serious head injuries. He was first picked up by LifeFlight, but quickly transferred to an ambulance less than a mile away due to low visibility for the flight.

He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Jeremy Buchanan was able to jump clear of the accident and was not injured.

The driver of the SUV was not injured either, but her vehicle was towed from the scene.

No charges are expected to be filed.
