Interstate 65 in Williamson County reopened early Saturday morning following a deadly accident involving two pedestrians.
The crash was reported around 11 p.m. Friday along I-65 north near mile marker 71. An iReport 2 member saw the bodies of the victims lying along the interstate shortly after the accident near mile marker 71.
News 2 later learned Jessica Coleman, 20, of Pulaski and Rodney Hatton, 26, of Columbia were walking from the median to the right shoulder for an unknown reason and were hit in the HOV lane by a vehicle traveling north.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 23-year-old Amber Pater of Nashville. Pater and a female passenger were injured in the accident.
The roadway was closed for several hours between Moores Lane and Concord Road while crews cleared the scene and investigated.
Cars had to be rerouted until the interstate reopened around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators said speed and weather didn't seem to be a factor. It is still unclear why the man and woman were walking on the interstate.
No charges are pending and no additional information was released.
