NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 25-year-old man was shot in east Nashville late Thursday night.

Police responded to the 700 block of South 7th Street around 10:30 p.m.  They found shell casings, but no victim or witness.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Vanderbilt University Medical Center alerted authorities about a gunshot victim arriving at the hospital.

Officials interviewed the victim who told them he was in the area to visit his brother.  His brother was not home, so he visited a female friend.

Upon approaching his friend, the suspect walked up and started shooting the 25-year-old.

The victim fled, but was struck once in his lower rear.

He reported to police he does not know why he was targeted.

His injuries are non-life threatening.

Detectives are still trying to determine the cause.

The suspect was wearing a lime green shirt and khaki pants.  Anyone with information is urged to contact Metro police at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
