A man was arrested on multiple charges after police found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle Wednesday morning.
Officers reported James Byrd, 29, was asleep in the driver's seat of his car at the end of the exit ramp from Briley Parkway South to Murfreesboro Pike.
The vehicle was reportedly in a lane of traffic with the engine on and the transmission in drive.
Authorities woke Byrd, who allegedly told them he did not realize he was driving and thought he was at home.
According to an affidavit, Byrd appeared confused and could not remember how he got there.
Police said he denied having consumed alcohol or using drugs. They also said he had slurred speech, trouble focusing, and could not follow directions.
Officers performed a standard field sobriety test and noticed several indicators of impairment.
A search of his vehicle recovered multiple bags of narcotics, a digital scale, and a meth pipe, along with two bags of crystal type substance that tested positive for meth.
Cocaine was also found inside folded up dollar bills along with $624 in cash.
Byrd was charged with DUI and possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Metro jail on a $25,000 bond.
