A robbery suspect is in custody after his alleged victim and a witness fought off his advances at local motel parking lot Wednesday evening.
Robert Pittman, 27, is accused of robbing a man outside Comfort Inn Suites on Elm Hill Pike, using a loaded shotgun.
The victim, who asked not to be identified, told Nashville's News 2 he was sitting in his work truck when Pittman approached him.
"I was sitting on my van, talking on my phone when a guy came up and put a gun in my belly and asked for my wallet," he said.
According to an arrest warrant, when Pittman saw there was no money in the wallet, he tried to force the victim to take him to an ATM.
"I told him no, and told him I'd do anything, [but] I'm not getting in the truck with him," the victim said.
After telling the gunman no, the victim boldly grabbed the gun and put Pittman into a headlock. A witness rushed over to help hold him down until police arrived to the scene.
"It was the worst feeling ever," the victim said.
Following Pittman's arrest, officers were able to determine that the 12-gauge shotgun he was carrying was reported stolen in August. The barrel was also shorter than allowed by law.
Pittman is charged with aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated kidnapping, theft of property and unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon.
His bond is set at $170,000.
