COLUMBIA, Tenn. -

Columbia police are investigating after a body was discovered several blocks away from the police station last weekend.

Francisco Hernandez's body was discovered by a passerby who was walking his dog around 9 a.m. Saturday near the railroad tracks along Trotwood Avenue.

Since the man did not have a cell phone with him at the time of the discovery, he walked several blocks to the police station to report his findings.

Forty-two-year-old Hernandez was found wearing white shoes, blue jeans and a dark colored shirt.

Police reported a white blanket and three empty beer bottles were also discovered at the scene.

Investigators do not know how long his body may have been at the site.

An autopsy will be conducted.

Police are still working to locate Hernandez's next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding Hernandez or how to reach family members are urged to contact police at 931-388-2727.
