Haslam to discuss plans to boost higher education in Tennessee

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Governor Bill Haslam is scheduled to speak about "Drive to 55" on Wednesday at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville.

The initiative is aimed toward increasing the number of Tennesseans with at least a two-year college degree or professional certificate.

Haslam announced the plan earlier this year and has continued to work on it since.

During his announcement Wednesday, the governor is expected to clearly define the plan and its challenges, as well update the public on its progress.

As of now, only 32% of Tennesseans have a two-year degree or higher.

Haslam's goal is to raise that number to 55% by 2025.
