SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -

Auto parts supplier Calsonic Kansei will invest $109 million and add 1,200 new manufacturing jobs at its facilities in Lewisburg, Shelbyville and Smyrna.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam joined Calsonic Kansei's president and CEO, Shingo Yamamoto, and Motohiko Kato, the Japanese consul general of Japan in Nashville, for the announcement Tuesday morning in Shelbyville.

"We are grateful to Calsonic Kansei for this significant investment that is creating more than 1,000 Tennessee jobs," Gov. Haslam said.  "Along with supporting existing businesses, a big part of our economic development strategy is to focus on the things we do well, and this expansion further solidifies our state's leadership in auto manufacturing."

Calsonic Kansei is the largest parts supplier to Nissan in North America and currently employs more than 1,000 people in both Shelbyville and Lewisburg and 460 people in Smyrna.

Calsonic's products include automatic climate control, electronics, cooling and exhaust systems, according to their Web site.

The new investment breaks down to $49.9 million and 526 new jobs in Lewisburg, $57.6 million and 489 jobs in Shelbyville and $2.1 million and 183 news jobs in Smyrna.

Calsonic Kansei expects the expansions will be completed around December of 2015.  The jobs will be created over the next three years.

Tuesday's announcement is third 1,000-plus jobs announcement in the last two months in Middle Tennessee.

In July, global services company ARAMARK announced an investment of $20 million and the creation of 1,000 jobs for a new Business Services Center in Nashville and in late August, UBS, one of the world's largest banking and financial services companies, announced the company will establish a shared services center in Nashville, investing $36.5 million and creating 1,000 new jobs over the next five years.
