Parolee charged with string of vehicle burglaries

Metro police arrested a parolee who is believed to be responsible for a recent string of vehicle burglaries Thursday.

Nathaniel Gardner Jr. was taken into police custody after a citizen reported seeing him break into vehicles in the 1300 block of 7th Avenue North.

Upon their arrival to the area, two officers witnessed Gardner, 53, breaking a SUV's window and crawling inside the vehicle.

Gardner was taken into custody after a brief struggle and is currently charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.

He is being held in lieu of $50,000.

Additional charges are anticipated.

Police said Gardner was convicted in 2006 of robbing a realtor and her client at a home they were visiting on Jones Avenue.

Gardner also has previous robbery and burglary convictions in Montgomery County.
