UT to ban backpacks inside Neyland Stadium on game days

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

A big change is coming to the University of Tennessee-Knoxville's football games.

On Tuesday, school officials will announce a ban on backpacks at Neyland Stadium, joining many other SEC schools that already have the ban in place.

Vanderbilt University in Nashville has banned backpacks for some time now, but after the Boston Marathon bombings, more and more schools are jumping on board.

The "no backpack" rule at UT will be tested for the first time Saturday when the Vols host Austin Peay.

Game-goers are urged to keep their belongings to a minimum.

Officials will still allow cushions, diaper bags accompanying infants, cameras, pagers, cellphones and binoculars.

The NFL recently banned all purses and bags this season as well. Fans are only allowed to bring in gallon-size clear plastic bags.
