NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly stole narcotics from a local Kmart.

The employees of the business located at 4095 Nolensville Road told police that the man jumped over the pharmacy's counter around 6 p.m. and demanded narcotics.

James Dilday Jr., 49, reportedly told the clerks they had three minutes to load his bag with drugs.

Once police arrived at the scene, Dilday had just sped off in a white Ford pick-up truck.

A loss prevention agent provided the truck's license plate number and Dilday was located travelling at high speeds down Harding Place.

Authorities attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, he kept driving and a chase ensued.

Dilday led officers through subdivisions and into oncoming traffic before police pulled back due to public safety.

Police located him at his residence shortly after.  When they arrived, Dilday was on the phone with a dispatcher allegedly attempting to report his truck stolen.

Officers, however, stated they personally observed him operating the vehicle during the pursuit.

Dilday was placed into custody, returned to the scene to be identified by Kmart employees, then transported to jail.

The approximate value of the narcotics taken during the robbery was $8,633.

Dilday is charged with robbery, evading arrest and filing a false police report.

He is being held in lieu of $42,000 bond.

Dilday has a criminal history including fraudulently obtaining prescription medication and larceny.
