MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

A mother was arrested after she left her disabled daughter in a hot car in Memphis on Sunday.

According to The Commercial Appeal, Jennifer Cotton, 46, left her daughter, who has cerebral palsy, inside her vehicle while she attempted to buy drugs.

Arriving officers reported Cotton looked "nervous and jittery," according to the affidavit.

Her 20-year-old daughter was inside the vehicle in a soiled diaper.  The windows were rolled up and the engine was turned off.

The daughter was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital where doctors said she was severely malnourished, the newspaper said.

Cotton was arrested and charged with adult abuse, exploitation and neglect.

She is being held on $5,000 bond.
