Toddler found wandering alone at night, Mom charged

A mother was arrested after her son was found wandering alone in Murfreesboro late Tuesday night.

Police reported they took the 2-year-old into custody from a parking lot near the 2700 block of South Rutherford Boulevard at 11 p.m.

According to The Daily Journal, officers searched the neighborhood and knocked on doors trying to locate the toddler's parents, but could not find them.

The Department of Children's Services then took custody of the boy.

Police reported the child's mother, Shakari Williams, called at 7 a.m. Wednesday and told them she noticed her son was missing around 5 a.m. that morning.

Authorities told her they knocked on her door the night before and no one answered.

The newspaper said the report cited inconsistencies about what happened during the night.

Williams was subsequently arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.

She was released on $2,000 bond.
