Nashville fire death ruled homicide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police and the fire marshal are now investigating the August 5 death of Alexander Ray as a homicide.

Ray's badly burned body was found in a basement bedroom of his home located on McGavock Pike at Glenmeade Drive.

Ray's wife, their adult son and three grandchildren were also in the home at the time of fire.  None of them were injured.

The fire was contained to the basement. The cause is not yet known.

Metro police said Thursday a person of interest has been identified and strong leads are being pursued.

The investigation continues.

Ray was 52 years old.
