Clarksville police are searching for the man who hitched a ride from a motorist and teen before forcing the driver to go to an ATM and withdraw money. Police reported the suspect, who has since been identified as Cedric Dion Laster Jr., approached the brothers around 11:20 p.m. on July 30 in the downtown area of Clarksville and asked for a ride. A short time after getting into the vehicle, the Laster displayed a handgun and pointed it at the juvenile's head. "He said this is a stickup and then he directly put the gun to my brother's head and said I need you guys to go down by the Cumberland City Bank right now," victim Chris Layton said. Once arriving at the bank, the Laster obtained one of the victim's pin numbers to withdraw $100 in cash before demanding being driven to another nearby bank. While at U.S. Bank on Franklin Street, the Laster withdrew $200 from the second victim's bank account before demanding being dropped off at a nearby parking lot where a maroon van was waiting for him. "I regret my decision," Layton said. "I wish I just said no."No injuries were reported in the incident. Laster is described as a black male, around five feet, 11 inches tall and 160 pounds, with short hair. Surveillance video captured a photograph of the suspect as he used the victims' debit cards. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black T-shirt and black cap.
Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts or identity is urged to contact police at 931-648-0556 or Crime Stoppers at 931-645-TIPS.
