NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 52-year-old man died after his home caught fire early Monday morning in east Nashville.

The blaze was reported around 6:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of McGavock Pike at the corner of Glenmeade Drive.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

The man, tentatively identified as Alexander Ray, was found dead in the home's basement.

"It's a first floor basement type area.  There's a laundry room, bedroom and some other things they are looking at right now," Metro Deputy Chief Kim Lawson said.

Ray's wife, their adult son and three grandchildren were also in the home at the time of fire.

None of them were injured.

The home had a functional fire detector, which authorities believe could have helped the rest of the family get out in time.

The fire was contained to the basement.  The cause is not yet known.
