NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Religious congregations of all faiths came together to improve the lives of children in Nashville this weekend.

The Children's Defense Fund is sponsoring a multi-faith children's Sabbath weekend.

On Saturday, the "Love's Healthy Start Rally" was held at Hadley Park.

The rally hosted a variety of booths highlighting children's health issues, speakers and activities for youth.

Children that participated received free backpacks and school supplies.

"Our intent is to prepare parents and families for the start of the school year. Last year was difficult in the since that we had some violence, we know there is a lot of poverty out here in our community," said Lorraine Stallworth.

On Sunday, there was an interfaith day of worship and prayer. Leaders and congregations gathered across Nashville to call for a mandate to nurture and protect children.
