An alleged drunk driver was arrested early Friday morning after crashing into a front end loader carrying construction equipment.
The accident occurred around 1:40 a.m. in the 3000 block of Dickerson Pike.
According to witnesses, a Ford Taurus was traveling at a high speed when it struck a front end loader carrying a large pipe.
Two people were inside the vehicle.
The passenger had to be extricated and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with an injured femur.
Responded officers reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, 36-year-old Jonathan Brewington. There was also a bottle of beer between his feet and another bottle of beer in the center console, according to an affidavit.
Brewington was taken to General Hospital to have his blood drawn.
He was later charged with DUI, violating the state's open container law and driving on a revoked license and booked into the Metro jail.
He has since been released on bond.
Crews were out working on the sewer lines at the time of the crash. No one else was injured.
