Mt. Juliet officers out in full force as students return to class

MT. JULIET, Tenn. -

As Wilson County students returned to class on Thursday, Mt. Juliet police officers were also out in full force in an effort to crack down on motorists speeding though school zones.

Authorities told Nashville's News 2 they doubled the amount of officers to make sure all school zones were safe.

"In the past years we have been faced with complaints about traffic not stopping for school buses when the stop arm is out," Chief James Hambrick said. "We are going to be monitoring that closely, texting while driving and speeding through the school zones and things so we are going to watch and hopefully deter."

Officers said they made several stops Thursday morning for speeding and seat belt violations.

Police said they plan to have increased presence in school zones for the next few weeks.
