South Nashville All Stars advance to regional tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Middle Tennessee is developing a reputation for outstanding Little League teams.

Last year, Goodlettsville took home the U.S. Championship and only missed winning the Little League World Series by one game.

This year, the South Nashville All Stars have picked up the state title and are determined not to stop there. They had to knock off Goodlettsville's championship team from last year to get this far.

Coach Chris Mercado said, "I think we've hit like 43 home runs in like 13 games, so yeah they're stroking it right now so hopefully we keep that going and peak, we need to start peaking right now."

The next step is the Southeast Regional Tournament in Warner-Robbins, Georgia. The team plays against Virginia Friday night at 7 p.m.

Shortstop Bricen Russell recalled the exciting state championship on Sunday, "Everyone after him got on base, then I hit a three run homer. We just had a lot of heart that game and so that's how we won it."

He continued, "I think that we can play our hardest in all that we do and hope that we go play to the best of our abilities and keep playing until we go to Pennsylvania."

The winner of the regional tournament this weekend moves on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
