Fraudulent deliveries made to La Vergne City Hall

LA VERGNE, Tenn. -

The City of La Vergne has been targeted by scammers.

Twice in one week drain cleaner was delivered to La Vergne City Hall. The problem is city leaders say no one there ordered it.

Both times city employees signed off on the items.  The mistake was realized only after the items were taken to their intended department.

"One employee had never spoken to either one of the companies and the other employee is no longer employed here and hasn't been employed here for two or three months," said city finance director, Phillis Rogers

City leaders contacted the senders, Cavalluzzo LLC and Nationwide Environmental Services, but were told they would have to pay the large sum of money or would be turned over to a collection agency.

"They said the product can't be returned and that the bill was due on the due date," said Rogers.

Signs are now posted throughout City Hall alerting delivery services that no orders can be accepted from the two companies.

Nashville's News 2 contacted Cavalluzzo LLC, however the man who answered the phone hung up when he heard who was calling.

A woman who answered the phone at Nationwide Environmental Services said they were aware that a business had been sending items pretending to be from their company.

They are telling people to report the scam to the Better Business Bureau.

La Vergne city leaders told Nashville's News 2 that they did not pay the bills and now their attorney is involved in the matter.
