ELKTON, Tenn. -

A Nashville's News 2 report earlier this week is credited with helping authorities make an arrest in an ATM theft in Giles County in southern Middle Tennessee.

Sunday night, thieves used a white Chevy pickup truck to rip out the ATM from David's Market in Elkton, Tennessee, just north of the Alabama border.

Nashville's News 2 showed surveillance video of the break-on Tuesday evening.

A viewer in Huntsville, Alabama recognized the truck and called the sheriff's office in Madison County, Alabama.

According to deputies there, the truck belongs to the Madison County Road Commission and was recently stolen.

Following a tip, deputies located the truck and set up surveillance on it.

Wednesday night, deputies followed the truck to a local store where the bandits were caught red-handed trying to steal another ATM.

Following a short pursuit, one man was arrested. Michael Dillard, 47, was charged with burglary and booked into the Madison County jail.

The Chevy pickup truck has been recovered.

Giles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Shane Hunter said News 2's story helped "connect the dots and locate the vehicle."

By phone, David's Market owner David Fralix told Nashville's News 2 he's ecstatic to learn of the arrest.

"I was so excited. I am so grateful. It means a whole lot to me. The police department in Giles County worked really hard, I'm really proud of them, and I'm really grateful that they did this. I'm tired of getting broken into, and thanks to Channel 2 for helping out. I appreciate that," he said.

Alabama deputies said the men responsible are known to area law enforcement.

The investigation is ongoing.
