City Paper to cease operations next month

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The City Paper will cease operations next month after 13 years.

The last print publication will be released August 9, and SouthComm, the newspaper's publisher, will discontinue NashvilleCityPaper.com shortly thereafter.

The closure was announced to employees Wednesday morning.

SouthComm will fold much of City Paper's content, including business news, politics and sports, into sister publication NashvillePost.com, which will be released via daily e-news alerts.

Additional content will be redirected to SouthComm's weekly publication, Nashville Scene.

"The decision to retire The City Paper is based on our organization's commitment to providing exceptional content for our readers and solutions for our advertising partners," Chris Ferrell, Chief Executive Officer of SouthComm said in a statement.  "Streamlining the way we bring news to Middle Tennessee is about understanding the needs of both our readers and advertisers as the consumer landscape changes."

The City Paper launched as a free Monday-Friday publication in November of 2000.
