Tenn. inmate pleads guilty to '99 slaying in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A federal inmate in Tennessee has pleaded guilty to killing a woman in West Virginia in 1999.

Media outlets report that 46-year-old Daniel Turner pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Monday in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

Kanawha County assistant prosecutor Reagan Whitmyer says Turner strangled 41-year-old Terry Clark of Charleston with a shoelace and dumped her body in Roane County. Whitmyer says DNA evidence linked Turner to the crime.

Clark's nude body was discovered beside U.S. 119 near Walton on May 27, 1999.

Turner faces up to 40 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Aug. 29.

He is serving a sentence for drug and gun charges at a federal prison in Memphis, Tenn.
