Man shot twice in garage by armed robber

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An elderly man was shot outside his home in south Nashville Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Cedar Hill Road near Haywood Lane.

Police reported that the 73-year-old victim was standing inside his garage with the door open preparing to take out his trash.

The victim looked outside and saw the suspect in his driveway.

The suspect said, "Give it up." and the victim ran back into the garage behind furniture and other stacked objects.

After realizing the suspect was not following him, the victim came back out into the open.

At this time, the suspect fire three shots and struck the victim twice.

He yelled for his son, who was in a downstairs bedroom, and the suspect fled.

The 73-year-old man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he listed in critical, but stable, condition.

The victim's wife was also home at the time of the shooting; she was not injured.

Police reported that the only suspect description they have at this time is that he was a black male.
