Shopper stabbed outside of Opry Mills Mall

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 40-year-old woman was stabbed outside of Opry Mills Mall in Nashville Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in the parking lot near Saks Fifth Avenue.

The victim reported to police the suspect got in her car and pulled out a knife before stabbing her several times.

The suspect, an unidentified male, fled the scene in a nearby waiting vehicle.

Mall officials told Nashville's News 2 they are working with police closely in the investigation.

In a statement late Wednesday afternoon, which read in part, mall officials said, "We are fully cooperating with the Nashville Police Department was they investigate this isolated incident, which has resulted in the stabbing of one individual. We are saddened by this and remain committed to the safety of our shoppers."

Nashville's News 2 spoke with shoppers following the incident on Wednesday afternoon who said they were surprised to learn of the crime.

"If that's going to happen, you might think it would happen at night but not in broad daylight. It definitely makes you think twice about going anywhere," concerned shopper Kim Murray said.  

The victim is said to have sustained minor injures. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

A suspect description was not immediately released; however police said they have solid leads in the case.
