The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death last week of a four-year-old girl.
According to a report in the Leaf-Chronicle, the child was previously in the care of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.
She had been returned to her parents six months ago after spending three years in DCS custody.
The paper reported the girl was initially removed from the home due to a traumatic brain injury inflicted by one of the child's relatives.
The same relative reportedly inflicted additional brain injuries Friday, resulting in the child's death.
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing.
