'Feline Frenzy' being held at Metro Animal Control

A new summer promotion by Metro Animal Care and Control is geared toward getting older cats adopted.

"Feline Frenzy" reduces the cost of adult cat adoptions from $60 to $5.

Animal Control Officer Billy Biggs told Nashville's News 2 the summer months are an especially busy time for the shelter with more animals and fewer adoptions.

"During the spring and summer months, we have so many adult cats come in, and kittens, but kittens go faster," he explained. "We decided to lower the adoption fee on adult cats to $5 for the next 90 days and hopefully get a bunch of them homes."

The promotion started Friday. Since then, as many as six cats have been adopted. Four more were scheduled for a final veterinary checkup on Tuesday before going to forever homes.

While animal control workers hope for continued success with older cat adoptions, they also remind individuals and families about responsible pet ownership.

"You got a lot of things to consider," Biggs said. "One is other pets in your household. Are there kids involved? Can you afford it? It is expensive. These are some of things you need to look at."

The lower adoption fees are for cats one year or older. Kitten adoption fees remain at $60. All feline adoption fees include first shots, FELUK, spay/neuter and rabies vaccination.

"Feline Frenzy" ends Wednesday, October 9.

Metro Animal Care and Control is located at 5125 Harding Place in south Nashville. The office is open Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 615-862-7928.
