Controversial textbook to still be used in Williamson County

Posted: Updated:
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

A textbook considered "anti-Semitic" by some Williamson County parents will return to the classroom in the fall.

Parents complained about passages in "The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography," a textbook used by advanced placement students.

Some parents previously said the book condones acts of terrorism against the Jewish faith.

"The textbook did not portray an accurate historical or archeological perspective based about all the information available about the Arab-Israeli conflict," said parent Laurie Cardoza-Moore, who initially filed a complaint.

A committee decided to keep the book because the publisher has removed the questionable passages from the electronic version of the textbook. The passages will also be removed from further editions.

Cardoza-Moore said there are 17 other books that also have questionable bias that are being used in Tennessee schools.
