Not only did a local soldier return from deployment on his birthday, but he also got to meet his daughter for the first time.
Specialist Nathan Lawrence is part of the 304th Military Police Company in Nashville, and has been serving in Kurdistan for the past nine months.
His wife, Ashley, was eight months pregnant when he began his overseas deployment.
On Wednesday, Specialist Lawrence finally arrived home and received one of the best birthday presents of his life, meeting his baby girl, Hannah, for the very first time.
"I'm so nervous!" his wife Ashley said while she waited at the airport.
As Specialist Lawrence approached his family, a smile broke out on his face as tears came to his wife's eyes.
"There's your daddy!" she said to their daughter, Hannah.
Nashville's News 2 captured the emotional moment as Specialist Lawrence held his daughter.
"This is so surreal, to see her in person. I was really worried she would be afraid of me, but she's not. She knows who her daddy is," he said.
Ashley said that their daughter knew her daddy's voice and face, but just had not seen him in person. The couple spoke on Skype almost every night after Hannah was born.
