NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Country singer Randy Travis remains in critical condition after suffering a stroke due to complications from congestive heart failure.

The 54-year-old underwent surgery Wednesday to relieve pressure from his brain.

He is currently hospitalized at Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano, Texas where he was moved after the stroke.

Reporter Jeff Ray in Dallas told Nashville's News 2 that Travis was released from surgery around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The singer was originally admitted to the hospital Sunday with viral cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by a virus.

The 54-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer, best known for hits "Forever and Ever, Amen" and "Three Wooden Crosses," became ill after a virus infected his heart muscle, causing it to become weakened and enlarged so that it could not pump properly.

No additional information was released.
