NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Bed bugs are a growing problem in Nashville.

A new survey by Terminix shows Music City is one of the top 15 cities in the country for bed bugs, with infestations having grown 17%.

However according to All American Pest Control's Jim Bilbrey said their bed bug calls are even higher.

"Over the last 12 months we've done about a 350% increase in our heat treatments alone," he explained.

According to Billbrey, heat treatments are the best way to get rid of bed bugs.

"Our heating equipment has done, over the last four weeks, it's been in service 20 days in those four weeks," Bilbrey said. "We've been heating apartments, hotels, residential homes [and] assisted living facilities."

There are other Tennessee cities with bed bug problems, but Nashville's problem is growing faster.

Bed bugs feed on humans by hiding in beds and sofas and biting its victims.

"A full-grown bedbug is similar in size to a tick," said Bilbrey. "Shape wise they're a little different, but size wise, they're going to be similar and they're about the same color, that tannish-brown color."

Bilbry said bed bugs are on the rise in Nashville because of the tourist industry.

The bugs made a comeback first in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles then moved throughout the country.

The city with the highest increase in bed bug infestations is Sacramento, California.
