A new restaurant in Cool Springs promises a taste of the tropics.
Pollo Tropical opened its doors Wednesday with festivities planned throughout the day.
"Come on down to the beach party," said Jack Wolfe, spokesperson for the restaurant. "We have a theme: 'Life is better under the palm.' And we not only believe it, we live it."
A small crowd gathered hours before the restaurant opened, while employees prepared food, food giveaways and a surf simulator.
"I love chicken," laughed Hannah Lucas.
Lucas and two of her friends, Austin Nichols and Mitchell Rodriguez, arrived at the restaurant at 3 a.m.
When asked how the trio passed the time, Rodriguez said, "Playing tennis (and) just goofing around."
As the name suggests, Pollo Tropical serves Caribbean-style chicken. The company promises fresh, never frozen chicken without hormones or preservatives.
Chicken-lovers rejoiced when the Miami-based chain made the move to Tennessee, choosing Smyrna and then Franklin as new locations.
"We picked this location because it's a very family-friendly, and it was just a great fit for the brand," Marketing Coordinator Ashley Wojnar said of the Franklin location.
The new restaurant sits across from Wells Fargo and Kroger shopping center on Mallory Lane.
The area, also known as Cool Springs, falls on the border of Brentwood and Franklin and has seen exponential growth in recent years.
Franklin city leaders told Nashville's News 2 there is room for more growth but for now, the city and the restaurant are celebrating something new in Pollo Tropical.
"What better way to celebrate than to have a really great summer beach party, and bring surfing to Nashville," Wolfe said.
The party will continue in Middle Tennessee for Pollo Tropical. A Murfreesboro location is in the works.
The Smyrna restaurant is located at 715 Team Boulevard.
The Franklin restaurant is located at 2017 Mallory Lane.
