New organization aims to be Christian alternative to Boy Scouts

Nashville is set to host the initial convention for "On My Honor" (OMH), a new Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts of America.

The Tennessean reported that the convention will be held on September 6 and 7.

OMH's goal is "to be the premier national character development organization for young men which produces Godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens", according to their Web site.

The program's interim director, Rob Green, said that thousands of families called for a new "morally consistent" youth organization after BSA voted to allow openly gay members.

OMH aims to fill that need by allowing members of all faiths to join, but requiring leaders to sign a statement affirming their tie to Christianity.

Founder John Stemberger said, "The goal is not to proselytize. It is to build young men who are godly, but when a young man asks a leader a question, they will answer in a Christian context."

At the initial convention in September, leaders of "On My Honor" will announce the organizations official name, logo and branding information.
