Body recovered from river was 19-year-old bridge jumper

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The body recovered from the Cumberland River Tuesday night has been identified as a 19-year-old Nolensville man who jumped from a downtown bridge last week.

Samuel Hagens, 19, jumped off the Victory Memorial Bridge in downtown Nashville last Friday morning.

Prior to, witnesses noticed him acting strangely at the MTA bus station at 4th and Charlotte avenues.  Police said Hagens ran from there to 3rd Avenue and passed police headquarters before going to the bridge.

He removed his pants, left them on the bridge and jumped more than 30 yards into the river.

He never resurfaced.

His body was recovered near the Cleeces Ferry boat ramp in west Nashville around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.
