Metro police arrested a woman Tuesday for attacking her boyfriend with a hammer while he slept.
The alleged incident happened June 19 at the couple's Bellevue home.
According to an affidavit, Donna Newton, 51, struck her boyfriend, 48-year-old Harold King, Jr., with the hammer in the head, face and arms.
King was able to get away and call police.
He suffered a cut on his lip that required stitches, and numerous bruises, according to police.
A neighbor of the couple told Nashville's News 2 it's "always something with these two," adding police are frequently called to the home.
Newton's criminal history dates back 30 years and includes arrests for prostitution, criminal impersonation and another aggravated assault in 2004.
According to arrest documents, Newton cut her boyfriend with a knife when he refused to give her $40 in the 2004 incident.
King's arrest history includes drug, theft and assault charges.
Newton is charged with aggravated assault for the most recent incident. She was booked into the Metro jail on a $10,000 bond.
